Research
In Barranquilla, Colombia, a 2020 report revealed that of every 100 pets with homes in the country, there are 38 dogs and cats on the streets. Despite 'Adopt, Don't Shop' promotion that encourages adoption, many people in the city still hesitate to adopt a mixed breed pet, especially dogs.
Interviews
Our team conducted interviews with five dog owners, two who had adopted a dog, and three who had bought a dog from a breeder. From these interviews, we noticed two main issues that prevent people from adopting dogs: Stigma around mixed breeds dogs and their health, and lack of information about adoption processes.

Creating User Persona
We began by creating a simple user persona and listed possible ideas that could tackle the two previously mentioned issues identified. Our user persona, Alex, was based on the needs and pain points we identified during the interview process. They are a young adult between 20 and 30 years old, who lives alone with a stable job, and is looking for a companion to do outdoor activities with.
We began with the idea of a social media information campaign, or a donation drive, but decided that we needed an actionable solution that could facilitate and streamline the adoption process.

Sketches
We opted for a mobile application to match people with their potential new dogs based on a system of likes and matches. We analyzed the user flow of popular dating applications such as Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge to replicate the matching experience with dog adoptions.

Prototyping

Canectados is a dog matching app that seeks to connect would-be-adopters with their ideal dog. Using a likes-based system, Canectados would help make the adoption processes more accessible by partnering with local shelters and their pups.

This proposal uses a familiar dating app flow, and matches dogs based personality rather than appearance. We used Figma to prototype the interaction of an existing user that is seeking a new dog match.

Canectados is a play on words with the words 'Can', meaning dog, and 'conectados', meaning connected.
