Co-Creating Narratives was part a creative workshop series developed in collaboration with Hien Phan (University of Florida), Anne Wolf (former City of Gainesville Community Engagement Manager) and Gainesville-based educational program Project YouthBuild. This project was part of Phase One of the Gainesville chapter of One Nation One Project, which looked at the transformative power of art to promote a culture of wellness.
This project featured in my portfolio was my contribution to Co-Designing Narratives, where I facilitated a visual narrative activity to explore youth’s perceptions of violence in pop culture, and how they would re-imagine this culture by creating transformative messages to build a safer Gainesville.

Overview of the collaborative process. This timeline included the pivotal moments of the collaboration, along with challenges, insights and lessons learned during the process.
Process
I designed a four-page activity sheet with fill-in-the-blank prompts that encouraged participants to reflect on examples of pop culture in their context that promoted messages of violence or other negative connotations. Participants were then asked to re-imagine these messages into a transformative culture for other youth in Gainesville.
