Switching Between Languages is a data visualization project showing an average week in which I, as an international graduate student, switch between Spanish, my native language, to English, the language of my current context in Gainesville.
Final project for the University of Florida MxD-MFA Seminar course -  Spring 2023.
Exploration
I collected data on my use of language, the hours in which I switched between languages and the contexts in which the switch happened. I also kept a journal with jottings of my feelings and situations of discomfort. With this project, I was able to identify my habits in switching between Spanish and English and the feelings associated with each.

Initial sketches exploring form and meaning. I played around with bar graphs and clocks, but ultimately went with a pictorial representation with the speech bubble.
